“Why this “E”? The E stands for "adjustment aperture" - and this is actually the genius of this lens. A Tessar type made of modern lenses with a light intensity of 1:3.5 can be corrected well, but offers nothing remarkable in and of itself. Especially with the one-eyed reflex one likes to use a fast lens, because then the viewfinder image is brighter and any measuring wedges do not darken. However, such high-speed lenses are expensive and are stopped down to 1:4 or even more in practice by amateurs anyway. With the Primotar E, the designers have therefore used a trick. The lens is calculated and optimized for a light intensity of 1:3.5. However, its lenses have a slightly larger diameter than is necessary for this working light intensity. This means that the Primotar E provides the slightly higher light intensity of 1:3.0 when setting. The lens is not corrected for this opening and cannot be used photographically. However, this does not matter for the setting. What counts here is the brightest possible viewfinder image and jumping focus. And those few digits after the decimal point make a big difference.”

The Soap Bubble Bokeh Effect (SBBE), mostly demonstrated for Meyer Görlitz Trioplan 100mm f/2.8, can be amplified by a tele converter, e.g. Kenko APS TELEPLUS 2X (M42).

Example if KENKO 2X teleconverter is added to Primotar 3.5/50:
